Welcome to the club and thanks for choosing The Nimrod League as your sporting club!

  • Approach a current senior member and ask to be put in front of the executive board for approval.
Once you are a senior member, you will have the authority to hold office and vote in elections, the abilities of which are not available to associate members.

Dues are Due!
It’s that time of year again! Members need to support their club and get their new gate key. That’s right, the new lock at the front gate is in place and keys are available when your annual dues are paid. Contact Paul Fraser.

Annual Fishing Derby
Eagle Lake, February 5
Eagle Lake will again be the site of the annual Nimrod fishing derby. Starting at sunrise and going until 2 PM, this annual event is sure to bring out both the anglers and tanglers in what has been a premier winter family event in the past. Jumpin’ John Meyer is again the organizer and will be the emcee of the awards and free food. Mark your calendars.
Trap
Novice Trap Program
Much discussion and eventual concensus was made on the need for a series of novice trap nights. Conventional wisdom is that many new shooters initially need to be in a less competitive environment as they learn to shoot correctly. Also, with top shooters as coaches, their progress and confidence in the sport will thrive. Dave Fillow suggests evenings other than Thursdays be scheduled for such events. Watch for it!

Bird Program
Update
Kevin Chviruk reports that because of the November storm, many of the pens at the jail collapsed releasing 100’s of birds into the neighboring woods. Inmates captured some but the additional loss of birds that were killed during the collapse have rendered the regular season lean on stocking bird numbers. The youth hunt had to be cancelled but Chris Craigue would like to see if we can put together an early Spring youth hunt in its stead. KC added that quail or chuckers could be substitute game. Watch the newsletter for further progress of this event. Kevin Chviruk will look for alternate sources to supply our club for game preserve hunts.

Bar Committee
Alternate Sought
The E-board discussed the need for forming a bar committee. The issue was Club Updates promulgated by the fact that Bob Horgan is not always available for clubhouse functions. It was not an inference that Bob hasn’t done anything but a stellar job as lead man, just that asking him to attend every event is too much of an expectation. Anyone interested in assisting, please contact Chris Craigue.

Future Events
Swap Meet and others...
Swap Meet
The third annual Nimrod swap meet is scheduled for March 13 at the regular member’s meeting. It will start at 6:30. There will be an abbreviated meeting, small meal then on with the swap event. In the past, many members were able to exchange, sell and buy everything from ammo to zippo lighters. Guns, gear and gadgets, Bows, bullets and brass were all there. Check your cellars and attics. Recycle those little/not used items that will put cash in your pocket and help a fellow-member get started.

Shooting Competitions
Bill Craigue is planning the utilization of the rifle range for shooting events and competitions. TBA! Watch for it.

Featured Guest Speakers
Chris Craigue revisited the idea of having guest speakers at our monthly member’s meetings. He would like to start scheduling these speakers as soon as possible. The topics need merely be of interest to club members and last a minimum of 15 minutes. It was suggested that demonstrations on reloading, explanation of a favorite gun and why are welcome. The topic need not be “thesis material”, just interesting. Step up/sign up.
