Club Updates
- Revenue—Ken McGowan, new Revenue Chairman, voiced several new ideas for raising money to the Exec Board, including possible monthly Shooting competitions for members and outside sportsmen from other clubs. Give your ideas to Ken!
- Membership—Last year was a huge success regarding membership growth. It was great to see everyone pitching in by introducing neighbors, friends and relatives to Nimrod. Local towns’ sportsmen and sportswomen with their youthful ideas continue to be a great way to invigorate our club.
Put a blank application in your wallet and sell your Club to prospective outdoorsmen and sportsmen, and shooters.
- Skeet—The skeet field is open on Thursday nights.
- Guest Speaker—Worcester outdoor columnist Mark Blazis, who put in over 2 million miles in the air last year, will be our guest speaker at Tuesdays regular club meeting. Make plans to attend. Enjoy the presentation, food and members as we kick off our Spring schedule.
- Pig Roast—Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the Nimrod Clubhouse, 168 Coal Kiln Road, Princeton. It will be held rain or shine. Festivities begin at 11:00 to finish. $12.00 for single adults or $20.00 per couple. Kids under 14 will be served burgers and hot dogs for free.
Members’ guests are welcome. Horseshoes for the old guys will be run by Don French Sr, hop-sack races for the kids (with prize medals) run by Robin Tarani, badminton will run by Chris Craigue, D-Jay music by Kevin Spokis, Bob Horgan whipping up his famous green been salad, Bob Hokanson bringing watermelon and ice cream for all, Dave Crowley bringing plenty of his company’s famous Polar Ginger Ale and sodas, Eric Johansson bringing the big coffee urns and “bug juice”, etc, etc. Tickets still available but we need a rough count so call Bill Craigue at 978-537-1942 by this Tuesday to reserve yours. It’s a great deal because the club is partially subsidizing. Only $12 for an adult, or only $20 for a couple, and KIDS ARE FREE! Plenty of dogs and burgers for kids organized by Rick Spokis. It’ll be a big pig, plus a deep fried turkey for those who don’t cotton to pork, so bring your doggy bags in case of leftovers.
This picnic will be a barn burner so bring the wives, kids, grandkids, nephews, nieces, brothers, sisters, boyfriends and girlfriends, and neighbors. The more the merrier! Bar will be open and well stocked. Starts at 11:30 and runs till you get tired.
Some tickets will be available at the gate that morning for last minute “mind-changers” but please try to call Bill in advance, or come to tomorrow nite’s(Tuesday June 8) Monthly Meet as Bill will be there.
- Bird Program—Woods clean up continues every Sunday morning at 9:00 am, from now till bird season. Bird hunters are urged to call Kevin Chviruk at 508-792-2047 to help out.
- House—Volunteers needed to cook the July and Aug monthly meet meals. Call Bob Hokanson at 508-8692984.
Our Club plans to allow the Worcester County League of Sportsmen to use our facility for occasional meetings. This will allow us to improve our contact and interaction with other Clubs and the State organization in general.
Rental Protocol –Exec Board / President managing creation of a new three part Rental form to assure trouble-free rentals of the Club in the future. Our long term member Don French Jr will manage the applications.
- Indoor Pistol Range—Nothing new here. We have increased our membership exponentially and it is clear that there is a profound interest in pistol shooting and in forming a pistol team. Rick Spokis remains focused on starting that competitive pistol team. As John Meyer points out, “sportsmen clubs are very competitive regarding membership and we have to keep in stride as our club grows”. The idea that an indoor pistol range could also serve archery has taken on a life of its own. This matter will continue to be discussed.
- Range—Rifle Range looking great nowadays after a ton of work by our famous and indefatigueable Craigue brothers, and many others. Stop up and plug a few rounds into the new sand berms.
An indoor pistol range still on minds of exec board. A long range study committee informally gelling. Contact Bob Horgan or Rick Spokis to jump on.
- Scholarships—Roy Baer announces that Diana Garceau won out over several othe excellant candidates and will receive a $500 scholarship from the Club to Keene State. Congrats to Diana.
- Email Addresses—We need everybody to submit their E-mail address to Secretary Rick Spokis @ IASCSC1@yahoo.com
